A Rose By Another Name

Linda's voice:

Not having been blessed with a green thumb, nor ever having been successful at making real roses bloom, I have chosen the hardy hollyhock as my ‘rose’. Wisely named in French,“passe-rose” or “rose-trémière”, the hollyhock is unpretentious, never demands undue attention, and grows prolifically in the most infertile soil. It rewards my inattentiveness with abundant, colourful blooms, reminding me of English gardens, tea parties, and ladies in long dresses and fancy hats. Giving back so much more than it takes, this other rose, resplendent in the morning sun, adds delight to my day.
