Red Osier Dogwood

Linda's voice:

In the fall, the red osier dogwood stands out with its red branches, multicoloured leaves and umbels of unusual white and blue berries. Last autumn, I first discovered this small tree growing by the riverbank at the end of my road - a road I've walked hundreds of times over the last twenty years.
It must have been flourishing quietly for over a decade, yet I had never noticed it before.

It is a humbling thought that so much is going on at every instant, at countless levels, of which we are unaware, and how minuscule is our individual part in the whole scheme of things.
