Ephemeral beauty – a big word for a little girl.
My dad, always a stickler for language, taught me that ephemeral came
from the Greek word, hemera, meaning a day, and that each of
these beautiful orange lilies, growing in wild profusion by the
roadside, would burst open in the morning sun, dazzle the world with
their beauty for one short day, and be utterly spent by evening. |
